Tabibu Soar Initiative delivers world-class medical outreaches and health solutions to vulnerable communities in Kenya's arid and semi-arid regions.
Born from the vision of "Care through Research," we integrate medical services with community education and data-driven solutions.
We believe that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right, not a privilege. Too often, vulnerable populations in remote and underserved areas are left behind. Tabibu Soar Initiative exists to change that narrative through compassionate care, community collaboration, and research-driven solutions.
The seed of Tabibu Soar Initiative was planted in 2023 during a medical class at Egerton University. In a discussion about infectious diseases, Baringo County was highlighted as a region bearing a disproportionate burden of tropical diseases. For Dr. Kibiwott Obadiah, a member of that very community, the moment was personal and profound. He knew the faces behind the statistics, the communities struggling with limited access to healthcare, and he felt compelled to act.
In December 2023, Dr. Obadiah shared his vision with a small group of colleagues who were equally passionate about giving back. Together, they began to explore how they could make a tangible difference. By February 2024, the idea had taken shape: they would organize a medical camp in Koitebes Village, one of the most underserved areas in Baringo County.
On May 4, 2024, the first Tabibu Soar medical camp became a reality. With limited resources but boundless determination, a small team of medical students and healthcare workers set up camp at Koitebes Dispensary. What happened that day exceeded all expectations. The community turned out in large numbers, grateful for the opportunity to receive free medical consultations, medications, and health education. The camp was a resounding success, not only because of the number of patients served, but because of the connections forged and the hope restored.
This initial outreach was made possible through collaboration with key partners, including the Baringo County Department of Health and local community health workers who helped mobilize residents. The success of this first camp laid the foundation for what Tabibu Soar Initiative would become: a movement rooted in care, driven by research, and sustained by collaboration.
Inspired by the impact of that first camp, the vision for Tabibu Soar Initiative grew rapidly. What began as a one-time outreach evolved into a structured, sustainable organization committed to long-term community health transformation.
Partnership with Mogotio Sub-County Hospital led to a successful medical camp serving over 400 patients. This collaboration demonstrated the power of working with local health institutions to extend care to remote areas.
Tabibu Soar Initiative was formally registered as a Community-Based Organization (CBO) under the Kenyan government, marking a major milestone in our journey toward institutional sustainability and recognition.
A groundbreaking partnership with Kwangju Hospital, South Korea, brought international collaboration to Baringo. Over four days, the joint team served more than 6,000 patients, providing consultations, treatments, and surgical interventions. This was the largest medical outreach in the organization's history.
Through Tabibu Soar Initiative, our patron, Hon. Simon Chelugui, donated a dental chair to Mogotio Sub-County Hospital—significantly improving access to dental care in Baringo County.
Every camp we conduct, every partnership we build, and every patient we serve adds a new chapter to our story. But this story is not ours alone—it belongs to the communities we serve, the volunteers who give their time, the partners who believe in our mission, and the countless individuals whose lives have been touched by our work.
As we continue to grow, our commitment remains steadfast: to provide world-class healthcare to the vulnerable, to generate knowledge that informs policy and practice, and to empower communities to take charge of their own health.
At the heart of everything we do is a simple but powerful vision: Care through Research. We believe that sustainable health solutions must be grounded in evidence. By collecting and analyzing health data during our medical camps, we generate insights that guide our programs, inform health policy, and create adaptable solutions tailored to the unique needs of the communities we serve. This integration of care and research is what sets Tabibu Soar Initiative apart and ensures that our impact is both immediate and enduring.
